Things to know about Marbella

Marbella is a very popular tourist destination, and rightfully so since Marbella itself is a modern luxury resort. located in southern Spain in the province of Malaga, on the coast, Costa del Sol.

Marbella belongs to the Andalusia region and is located between Malaga and the Strait of Gibraltar. The city stretches along the coast for 27 km and occupies one of the slopes of the Sierra Blanca Massif.

 Marbella has a unique microclimate where the sun shines almost all year round and there are no strong winds. This is one of the most expensive and prestigious resorts in Spain, which is a pilgrimage center for tourists all year round due to the favorable climate and developed tourist infrastructure.

History of the city

In 1940, Marbella was a small village with a population of less than a thousand people, now Marbella is considered one of the most expensive resorts in Spain. Rich people and artists, businessmen and many celebrities live in this beautiful city. The city is full of many prestigious golf clubs and tennis courts which further increase the attractiveness of an  lucrative destination.

In Marbella, there is the Golden Mile district – this is the place of luxurious mansions, this is the aristocratic village of Nueva Andalucia where you can find many houses where celebrities live.

Near Marbella is the port of Puerto Banus. There are expensive boutiques, nightclubs and expensive cars and yachts, prestigious restaurants.

 

 

The bulk of the beaches of Marbella are beautifully sandy. All the beaches are well equipped for receiving tourists, there are sun loungers and parasols, children’s play areas, litter bins, showers and toilets, medical centers and rescue towers, as well as beach cafes and restaurants.

 

 

As a rule, all beaches have golden sand, and some have pebbles mixed with sand. The occupancy of the beaches is usually high, for the average level, especially in the summer months, when the flow of tourists is the highest. The beaches are cleaned daily, the sand is leveled.

 

Near the center of Marbella there are five visited beaches: El Faro, La Fontanilla, Casablanca, Venus and Bahadilla.

 

Gastronomy in  Marbella

Marbella’s traditional gastronomy is heavily influenced by the local sea. A wide variety of fresh seafoods and methods for their preparation can be experienced and enjoyed here. Also, dishes such as gazpacho, tortilla with olive oil, or the sweet churros are very popular.


The most common and popular seafood dish is considered “pescaditos fritos” – an assortment of fried seafood. Slices of mullet, squid, shrimp and various shellfish are served on a large dish; in most Marbella restaurants, such a dish is prepared only on the grill.


 A significant portion of common meat dishes in Marbella are prepared from pork. It can be fried on a grill or in a usual frying pan, included in various meat stews and added to soups, and a special type of ham – jamon, is prepared from selected varieties of pork.
