[Society] Wildfire Spreads in Huesca, Spain…Three Villages Near Tamarite de Litera Evacuated

A wildfire in Spain’s northeastern region of Aragón has forced the evacuation of three villages near Tamarite de Litera, in the province of Huesca. Authorities ordered residents of Azanuy, Alins, and Calasanz to leave their homes as the fire advanced across dry land under difficult weather conditions.

The fire has also affected the surrounding area of Fonz, where residents have been advised to remain indoors as a precaution. Emergency services are working to prevent the fire from reaching populated areas and to reduce the impact of smoke, heat, and shifting winds.

Firefighting teams from Aragón’s wildfire response service, INFOAR, are operating at the scene. Spain’s Military Emergency Unit, UME, has also been deployed to support containment efforts. Ground crews, aerial resources, and emergency coordination teams are working to control the perimeter and protect nearby communities.

The affected area is estimated to cover several thousand hectares. Dry vegetation, high temperatures, low humidity, and wind have complicated firefighting operations. Initial information points to a possible spark from agricultural machinery as one of the lines of investigation, although authorities are still reviewing the exact cause.

The wildfire highlights the growing risk of summer fires in inland Spain. Aragón, like other parts of the country, faces higher fire vulnerability during periods of intense heat, dry soil, and strong winds. Rural areas with farmland, forested zones, and dispersed villages are particularly exposed when fires spread quickly.

For residents and travelers in the affected area, the priority is to follow instructions from emergency authorities. People should avoid approaching the fire zone, keep roads clear for emergency vehicles, monitor official updates, and take precautions against smoke exposure. Those planning to travel through Huesca or nearby areas should check road conditions and local alerts before departure.

The situation remains under emergency management as firefighting teams continue containment work. The evacuation of Azanuy, Alins, and Calasanz reflects the seriousness of the incident and the need to protect residents before the fire reaches more populated areas.
