Studying in Spain – Journal 10: Museo del Romanticismo

The Museum of Romanticism, or Museo del Romanticismo, is the former palace of the Marquis of Matallana. The Museum of Romanticism has a collection of art works by Goya, Esquivel, Madrazo, Alenza and the Bécquer brothers, and items related to the writer Mariano José de Larra. The museum is a re-creation of a typical 19th century home of a wealthy family in Madrid.

The Museum of Romanticism is in the Chueca area of Madrid. The closest metro stations to the museum are Tribunal and Alonso Martínez. Metro station Tribunal is on metro line 1 and 10, and Alonso Martínez is on metro line 4, 5 and 10.

The Museum of Romanticism is open from 09:30 to 18:30 on Tuesday to Saturday, and from 10:00 to 15:00 on Sunday. The museum also offers free access to all from 14:00 to 18:30 on Saturday, and from 10:00 to 15:00 on Sunday. A ticket for an adult costs 3€, and the museum offers free entry to students under 25 years old with a student ID.

Museum of Romanticism and Taco or Mozzarella

The Museum of Romanticism is not a very big museum, but it is very interesting to spend a few hours in there looking at interesting art works. They have exotic items like necklaces made out of human hair and an impressive collection of paintings and other art crafts. It was like taking a good look at the houses of aristocrats back in the day. I was very amazed by how elaborate the works were; it was fascinating to see how upper-class people in Madrid lived in the 19th century.

After a few hours of walking in the museum, Tako Away and Oven Mozzarella Bar are just a 5-minute walk away.

Tako Away is a Mexican “quality fast food place”. It is also one of my favorite places to get Uber-eat when I want Mexican food. They have burritos and tacos with different flavors to choose from and a wide selection of beers. They also have nachos with guacamole, which is tortilla wrap chips dipped in avocado sauce with other spices. I’ve never been to Mexico so I can’t say if the food there is authentically Mexican or not, but the fillings always taste fresh and the sauces are delicious. I would recommend it to people who want to grab a quick bite of good food.

Oven Mozzarella Bar is an Italian restaurant with a relaxing vibe. It is near the city center and the restaurant is stylish. They have all the classic Italian dishes that you can think of: pizza, pasta, ravioli, lasagna etc. They also use very tasty mozzarella cheese in their recipes.

I am a tiramisu lover and I always get tiramisu whenever I go to Italian restaurants. The tiramisu I had at Oven Mozzarella Bar was unforgettable for me. The mascarpone cheese cream was smooth and creamy, the texture was moist and very rich. Finishing a meal with something sweet like tiramisu is definitely very recommendable.
